The Frontier Project
The Frontier Project began in 2024 with the aim of encouraging children to spend more time outdoors. Inspired by key elements of Forest School practice, we have developed our own unique outdoor programme designed to benefit every child in our wonderful school.
From Nursery to Year 6, all children will have opportunities to take part in Frontier sessions during their time at Hare Street. Our approach is holistic and child-led, allowing children to explore and enjoy nature in ways that interest and inspire them. Each session is planned around the children’s needs and ideas. Over the past year, we have continued to develop our forest area based on what the children enjoy most, ensuring the space grows with them.
What Children Will Experience
Children take part in a wide variety of outdoor activities, including:
- Den building
- Arts and crafts
- Mud kitchen play
- Bug hunting
- Story sessions and themed days
- Forest games
- Learning about nature
- Building habitats and bug hotels
- And much more!
Clothing:
Autumn & Winter:
Children will need:

- Gloves
- Waterproof trousers
- Wellie boots
- Thick socks (plus a spare pair)
- Waterproof coat
Spring & Summer:
Children will need:
Children will need:
- Long trousers
- Sensible outdoor shoes and/or socks suitable for outdoor play
- Sun hats and sunscreen (weather permitting)
